WELCOME TO PLANET HOPE

Kelly Stone

In 1992, on the studio lot at Paramount Pictures, two sisters, Sharon and Kelly Stone, came together to create Planet Hope.  Inspired by an accident that left Kelly physically impaired for years, the sisters recognized the importance of having Hope in one's life.  It is from this shared family experience that Planet Hope was born.

Sharon Stone

Planet Hope has helped tons of thousands of families from around the world.  Planet Hope programs have been able to offer gratis medical and dental care, new clothes for kids, counseling and image makeovers for homeless women and women that have been victims of domestic violence at our annual summer camp.  Planet Hope's mission of providing hope for a better life has made a tremendous difference to thousands of homeless and abused children and their families.

PLANET HOPE PROGRAMS

Field Trips & Family Outings

Planet Hope hosts homeless and abused children and their families on our many field trips.  They experience joy and learning from attending museums, zoos, them parks, movies and sporting events, including L.A. Dodgers' baseball games.  Weekend outing include both parents and children, giving them an opportunity to retreat from their lives in the shelters.

Camp Planet Hope

Camp gives kids the chance to experience a traditional summer camp full of swimming, arts and crafts, sports and campfire stories, as well as much needed medical & dental care. Moms are provided with programs designed to help their self esteem, including one-on-one sessions with counselors, as well as learning about childcare opportunities, housing and employment opportunities.  Moms also have a "beauty day" of makeovers, massages, and special services contributed by makeup artists and hair stylists.  All of the children and their families leave camp happy and hopeful with backpacks filled to the rim with back to school clothes and new sneakers.

Emergency Referral Programs

Planet Hope provides constant information and referrals for individuals and families that find themselves in hopeless situations.  Planet Hope refers families to local shelters, food banks, medical facilities and counseling centers.

Food and Warmth Resources

Planet Hope is a contributing sponsor to a bi-weekly program to provide hot meals throughout the year to individuals living on our streets.  In addition, over 2000 sleeping bags, socks, and water are distributed to homeless and abused men, women and children living on the streets each Christmas Eve.

Hope for the Holidays

We have helped to provide Valentine's Day treats, Easter Basket, Halloween festivities, and Thanksgiving dinner for thousands of homeless and abused families each year. At Christmas time, hundreds of children from shelters, safe-houses and hospitals receive a hand picked toy (from over 4000 that have been donated by Mattel Toys, Hasbro, Jakks Pacific, Gifts In Kind, Paul Goldenburg and other generous vendors).

PLANET HOPE SOUTH
"Healing the Gulf Coast"

Planet Hope started a grass roots program in Lafayette, LA to help the survivors of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita displaced from their homes in the Gulf Coast.

Here are some of the things we've done so far...

Ø      Provided desperately needed insulin for a woman in diabetic shock

Ø      Provided an inhaler to a child with asthma

Ø      Provided an elderly man with a pair of glasses, which he could not see without

Ø      Provided money to St. Joseph’s Church, which is housing families with newborn babies

Ø      Reunited a mom and her child with her family in Baton Rouge

Ø      Reunited a mentally handicapped man with his family in Baton Rouge

Ø      Provided a man with a wife and 4 kids staying at a church with gas money to get to his new job in Lafayette and grocery money in order to begin providing for his family again

Ø      Worked with Project Rx, giving various medications to survivors and then we were instrumental in convincing CVS and Pfizer to give free medications for a month to victims in need of prescriptions

Ø      Requested the assistance of Dr. Fisher, an optometrist in Lafayette, to ask if he would give free eye exams if Planet Hope bought the glasses for all victims within our reach… He decided to give the exams AND the glasses

Ø      Provided food and water to 65 people traveling on a bus in search of shelter

Ø      Provided funding to the Lafayette Catholic Service Centers, Inc for the following programs

§        Working with eye doctors, dentists and other medical professionals to provide assistance to victims that we are in contact with

§        WalMart gift cards were distributed to families to purchase gas, medication, formula and diapers

§        Funded two hot meals per day for the week following the hurricane to the hungry

Ø      New clothing is continuously being shipped to many victims including: men, women, children and newborn babies

Ø      Co-Sponsored a “Beach to the Bayou” benefit with silent auction items and donations to help raise over $12,000

Ø      Sold T-shirts, made and designed by a close friend of Planet Hope, at the Benefit…Also selling the shirts at a retail store in Louisiana where all proceeds benefit Planet Hope’s Louisiana projects

Ø      Provided bulk quantities of food items to Food Net, a Louisiana-based organization that supplies Hurricane Survivors with groceries

Ø      Visited New Orleans to view the damage first-hand and met with Reverend Byron Clay, who runs a Relief Center providing Health care and hot meals to survivors…So inspired by his mission, Planet Hope donated money to help fund his programs and plans to continue supporting his cause

Ø      Hosted a “National Guard Pride” party in Louisiana to keep spirits alive and show true appreciation of the Guard and their efforts to protect the areas devastated by Katrina

And our list grows daily………….

REBUILDING HOPE...

Planet Hope and Real Estate Company, ILN Industries Inc., have teamed up to work with Habitat for Humanity to rebuild homes and buildings that are desperately needed in New Orleans.  The employees of ILN have offered portions of their commissions to go to the program, and Owner Henry Jan has offered to match any contribution going to the cause.

Our program works because of you...

Planet Hope and its founders and volunteers have received much recognition.  In the year 2000, George magazine honored Kelly Stone and seven other recipients with the First Annual George Award.  Along with Michael J.
